Man charged in 2 counties after deputy injured in high-speed chase

SPRING HILL, Tenn. (WKRN) – A Williamson County sheriff’s deputy was hospitalized after he was hit by a suspected drunk driver Thursday night.

It happened on Columbia Pike just north of Snowbird Hollow around midnight. Click here to view the raw dash cam video.

An officer with the Spring Hill Police Department attempted to stop the driver, identified as 45-year-old Thomas Thompson, who then sped away.

Authorities followed him as he traveled north on Columbia Pike reportedly clocking speeds of 116 mph.

Williamson County deputies responded to assist with the pursuit when the driver attempted to pass a car and struck a deputy’s cruiser.

The deputy, Robert Givens, was taken to Williamson Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries and has since been released.

Thompson, who was not injured, was taken into custody and now faces charges in both Spring Hill and Williamson County.

In Spring Hill, he was charged with speeding, reckless endangerment, DUI, felony evading arrest and driving without a license.

In Williamson County, he faces charges of speeding, felony reckless endangerment and driving without a license.

He was booked into jail on $115,000 bond.
